I've borrowed an iPad from work to try it out to see if it would fit my requirements...

I'm not impressed so far...

It looks like I need to enter a credit card number BEFORE I can do much with it!!!
Why does Apple need to store my credit card number for download FREE apps?

Anyway...

To continue my trial, I'm hoping Geekzone community can answer this for me...
Can I just go to a physical retail store and purchase a $20 iTune Gift Card to progress my experiment further?
Example: http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/catalog/product/Apple-iTunes-%2420-Gift-Card?SKU=1487061

Please help!

You can set it up without a credit card before you create your apple Id ( or creating a new one) by signing out of any id then downloading a free app. It will step you through same process, but give another option besides credit card to continue.

A Prezzy Card should do the trick - pre-paid credit card just pick up a $20 one from NZ post.

But yes. The iTunes cards will work and be used before your credit card is debited.

Yes.
Download a free App like 'Remote' and then choose 'None' when you're prompted to put in your credit card details. Use your iTunes details from there. You won't be billed for the free app (but you will use your credit if you download paid apps).

Expand the sections in the link below to read the whole 'how to' explanation.

I haven't been able to figure out how to not supply a credit card number...

Just to double check, all iPad wants is one of those iTune gift card from the retail store, right?

Has anyone had success with using Prezzy card from NZ Post?

Sorry for such a newbie question...
