A friend dropped their iPad2. The screen has the usual cobweb pattern on it now (!) but the display still works as does the digitizer.

Yobee have quoted $400 and change to fix it but that seems excessive so I was wondering if folks had any recommendations for places that can do that sort of repair. It's just the screen glass - not the display itself but they could be part and parcel of the same unit.

Why don't you log a job with Apple directly? I get all our work stuff done through them as you usually end up getting a new (looking?) unit. I tried local guys before and they always try and fix the unit...invariably leading to me having to send the unit back again.

It's not under warranty so Apple would charge as much as Yobee I suspect.

Fairfix looks good. Might ask my friend to give them a call.

I'm not sure on the cost but if you go through the process on their website you will find out the price before confirming and paying via credit card. They then send you a TNT pack to return the goods to them for repair or replacement.

iPhones cost just over $200 all up to fix/replace. Would be interested to know the iPad price.

If you going to spend that significant on replacing the screen, it'd probably be good idea to just get a new one for a bit more.

Have you checked out any of the numerous youtube vids on how to replace the screen yourself?

I did my Galaxy Tab 7 screen myself for the grand total of $45 after being quoted $400 from Samsung.

A friend was asking. Not sure it's within her capability or indeed mine to do that.

The site referred to quotes $179 for the screen which is reasonable.

I get the emails from PB Tech, and I'm sure one of them mentioned that they repair iPod/iPhone screens.
Might pay to ring and ask them.

If paying $400 for a repair, def buy a new one or a 2nd hand one with warranty left on it at least.

Fairfix charges around $180 and to my eyes, the iPad we got repaired, is good as new. Apple etc charging $400 is a joke.
