I'm loving my new iPhone 5 but am experiencing a bit of an issue with the Bluetooth audio streaming. I own a 2010 Toyota Yaris which has Bluetooth audio built into the factory installed stereo system. My 3GS running iOS 6 streamed to it perfectly. It showed 3 bars for the signal strength indicator, like the 5 bars you get for a cellular signal on your phone. I paired my new 5 to it without a problem, but a day later noticed that when I turned the car on, the Bluetooth audio playback cut in and out, and I had no bars on my signal. At first I thought it was my case, but removing it didn't help. I've also tried unpairing and re-pairing the phone. The audio always cuts in and out after the car first starts, then it comes right for a few seconds, then it starts cutting out again. It does that one or two times before it finally settles down and plays properly, although I never get any signal bars.

Is anyone else having the same issue? I note on the Apple forums that people are having problems after upgrading to iOS 6, but can't find anyone reporting my exact experience. Is it likely to be the software? Should I take the car down to Toyota to get the computer updated?

Hi, I am not sure if your radio is similar to the one in my Hilux, which is made by Fujitsu, but take a look at the radio manual and see if there is a section on how to initialise it. Once done try pairing it again (make sure you pair for Phone/Audio rather than just phone) and see if that sorts it.

Thanks. I'm not sure if mine is Fujitsu - it has no branding on it (just Toyota) and frustratingly I can't find the manual. I'll have to mount a search today.

Yes, I've noticed that, along with wifi issues too. Let's hope they sort it out. Someone said Apple had told them it had to do with the power saver feature and how it managed the Bluetooth chip.

I think I've fixed the issue. A call came in while I was driving today and didn't switch to the built in handsfree, so I wondered if I'd paired the phone wrong. I forgot the device, deleted the phone out of the car audio's memory, then re-paired as phone instead of BTA. Then the phone worked - and I got my Bluetooth signal bars back on the car's head unit - but the music didn't. So I did the whole forgetting unpairing thing again and went back to tying to pair the audio. Got lost in the menu, pressed a load of random buttons and gave up in frustration.

Fast forward to this evening, got in the car after work, and it was fine. Three bars on the head unit, both phone and audio streaming. Now it's driving me nuts that I can't work out what I did differently or correctly! But I'm happy it's working like it used to. :)
