So gizmodo has a video up of Google Voice Search vs Siri both on iOS

Neither is perfect so its good to have options. Its nice now that google often returns an answer instead of just a google search.

However i've been playing with this on an iPhone 4 & iPhone 5 but neither one of them talk back like in the video. Ive scoured through all the settings, logged in etc, and searched the web.

Does your google voice search talk back on iOS?
I wonder if maybe the gizmodo video was a beta version, and the feature was removed.

On Android phones the system language needs to be set to US english for talk-back (or at least it did to begin with when Google Now came out, may have since changed). Do you have an option to set the default system language to that in iOS to try that?

Strange, I just replied to you but my post is not showing? Even though on the 'New Forum Posts' list it show me as being the last post author??

Anyway. Thanks for the Tip.

Ive checked my phone settings;
The language options are either Engligh or British Engligh. I have Set to english.
The voice control setting was on English (Australia) i have changed to English (United States)

Also you got me thinking...
So i logged into my google account and checked the account settings, it has an option for search language, which was unspecified. I changed it to English (United States)

My phones "Region Format" is set to New Zealand. I don't really want to change to US, and it seems counter-intuitive that this setting would effect it (its more for dates, currency, etc I believe)

Yakkety Yak, It still doesn't talk back.

- The English US setting is in the apps itself.
- Also verify that the 'talk back' is enabled. When at the 'microphone' screen, click on the info icon at the bottom left corner, it has the toggle.

Thanks this did the trick. Not sure how i missed it when looking through all the options..

Just to clarify:

Touch the cog, top right.
Touch Voice Search
Select English (US)

The voice is much nicer than the Australian-ized Siri, who sounds cringe-worthy.

The problem with setting the language to US English, is I find it no longer recognises my kiwi accent when I ask it something.

How strange that it dosn't talk back on English settings other than US. Hope they update that in the near future... Do you think that they might one day get enough access to iPhone inner workings to successfully implement google now on ios??
