Hi,

A work colleague has an iPad v3 (6 months old) which has an issue in that the internal speakers have stopped working. She's taken it to Yoobee, and they've declined to warranty repair on the basis that there is some damage to the external shell indicating the unit has been dropped.

Now, I have no major issue issue with that - if the product has been damaged by mishandling, then it's not a warranty fault. I've seen the dent - it's a fairly small dent; but right on the corner, and would have taken a reasonable amount of force to make. Probably the right call, in my opinion, to be honest.

However, my colleague still has an iPad with no working speakers. Is there a local (Wellington-based) repairer that anyone can recommend who may be able to get them working again; or at least look at the product? (Presumably for a reasonable fee?)

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions

Did it stop working after it got dropped? If the damage isn't associated with the fault, then I would have thought it would still be covered. Teh problem is proving it either way. The place you took it is an authorised agent I pressume, so that would probably be the best place to get it repaired.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the timelines between potential dropping and speakers not working.

I agree about proof - it's a "your word against theirs" situation, which is never going to end well.

And yes, Yoobee = Renaissance; and are an Authorized Agent.

To be honest, I think that asking them about a paid repair is my colleagues best option; but she's currently in the "peeved with them" mindset, and doesn't want to go there.

So, looking for alternatives...

Probably contacting apple could be the best bet, at least if you want it repaired by an authorised agent. I hardly every use the speaker on mine, so is it worth repairing? They could use headphones if they need sound, or even have it connected via bluetooth to a local speaker.
