I've already posted a question asking for Android, anyway the Mrs is after a good waterproof case for her iphone 4.

I'm struggling to find any decent waterproof cases so that we can take them to the beach and maybe have a bit of a laugh in and around the sea. We're also quite into kayaking, so it'd be neat to get some pics when out and about. I've seen some hard cases before but I know that you cant use the screen if its in water, i.e. for getting some underwater pics.

Let me know if you have any recommendations. I'll keep looking around and will post back if I find anything.

How about an Ortlieb A5 "map" bag? I put my mobile in it for paddling in my sea kayak and store in the front pocket of my PFD. Allows calls and texts whist out on the water and you don't have to take it out of the case for those funtions. If I do want to snap a low res shot of the front of the boat, I can take it out the bag, snap away and return it nice and quickly.

I got three of these from dx. Seem pretty good. Took a while to ship though.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

I wish to avoid the velcro style ones, a friend had one of them and it wasn’t that watertight - it got caught on seaweed and it opened up! Going to look for one with an actual locking mechanism.

Have a look at Driphone.

If you do buy one of these I'd be really interested to hear your feedback. I was considering buying one for my 4S, but I've decided to hold off until next summer at which point I will probably have upgraded to the next gen iPhone.

The one I quoted has two snap locks. One at the top and one at the end so it seems pretty watertight but fair enough... pay it safe

Hi Alasta,

Thanks for the link!! They are way more than what I was hoping to pay.

The cases with the semi-circle top I have seen before in the UK. The issue with them is that you cant use the screen underwater, so I couldnt take any pics if I so wanted to - that's what I meant by a hard case.

I have just found this website: http://phonecases.co.nz and they appear to have a couple of cases and much more within my price range.

a) http://phonecases.co.nz/collections/waterproof/products/waterproof-case-lite
b) http://phonecases.co.nz/collections/waterproof/products/waterproof-phone-case-advanced

They seem to fit a number of phones as well.

I'll keep looking around, but unless I find anything better I'll probably go with one of them.

Cheers.

Hi All,

I've decided to go for one of the cases in the links I provided - the black one.

I'm happy to post feedback or how I get on with it if anyone is interested?

Thanks for your replies and help.

Workmate has a lifeproof case for his iPhone 5, makes the thing the same size as my Nexus 4 but seems to offer pretty good protection.

Woah - crazy amount of money!

If this is anything to go by, I reckon I made the right choice :)

Hi all,

I thought I'd post an update with the case I went for.

So I went for the black case and so far I've been really impressed with it. I've used it a few times and its worked great.  I was able to listen to music whilst swimming and I've even managed to take some photos of our kayaking experience. Although I must admit I'm mainly using it at the beach to keep the sand off the screen.

So yes - definitely recommend this waterproof phone case

Lifeproof for the win. I've had one for a year or so now. Also have the armband add-on for running, the case just clips in and out. They have a bike mount as well I think.

Thanks for the reply. Whilst they look good they are almost double the price. Still, I might have gone for one of those had I not found the case I had.

The good news is that the case we went for the iPhone 4 will also fits the iPhone 5 (she plans on upgrading soon).

Snap lock sandwich bags have worked really well in conjunction with my otter of commuter case. I don't know of anyone who needs a case permanently waterproof, but found ideal for kayaking and waterblasting duties
