The auto off (magnetic cover) on my ipad mini isn't working. On Wifey's Ipad 2 there is an option in Settings-General-Ipad Cover Lock/Unlock. My mini doesn't seem to have this option.

Anyone else with this prob?

It is there, as per below. You may ned to upgrade you ios version

I checked but running ios 6.1.2 which is the latest update but still doesn't show cover lock as yours does

it now appears that you need an Apple Smart Cover to initiate this function - an after market cover won't work even though it's advertised as having the sleep mode.

My ipad 2 cover lock definatly works wirh a Gecko cover.

Bloody hell, how does it recognise if it's an official Smart Cover or not?? It's just a magnet isn't it?!

Is there some sort of RFID chip in it or something??

What happens when you flip the cover over(So the outside side is facing the inside)? In the iPad 2 there was a magnet sensor but it would not check the polarity of the magnet. In the iPad 3+(I assume the mini as well) Apple changed the sensor to check for the polarity as some people where having issues on the iPad 2, with the cover being open it would turn off when the magnets where placed to close to the sensor.

Some case manufactures where caught out by this. It could be that the case you brought has the magnets flipped to the incorrect polarity.

In reality the smart cover is not really that smart its just a bunch of magnets so the iPad should not be able to tell that your case is not an official Smart Cover.

They are talking about the mini which may be different. Maybe it has a chip in it to prevent third parties making them?
