My phone has started vibrating for no reason.  Exactly the same as an e-mail notification, although when I check the phone there are no new notifications.  Have done a reset an a hard reset.  Have not resorted to a restore yet, and would prefer not to.

Have looked at other threads but there does not seem to be any satisfactory response.

Has anyone had this issue come up?

Have you been to iLounge and asked the same question?

They'll likely have something for you.

Ive had this issue before, hearing the noise and vibration with no visible notification. Are you sure you havent just disabled notifications from a certain email account or something?

sometimes a loose mute switch can cause this, as it vibrates when it goes back to the 'on' position

Thanks for your responses.

1) No I have not tried iLounge.  You guys are my go-to, and don't like signing up to new websites for a 1 off if I can avoid it.

2) The most current OS, I presume its 6.1.3.  Updated the other day.

3) Have not disabled any notifications on emails or anything like that - no settings have been changed recently.

4) Not a lose mute switch.  Switch is tight, and its buzzing (three times now today) while sitting on my desk and already in "mute" mode.  It doesn't buz when going into "on" position, just when going into mute.

It's supposed to buzz when you go to the 'on' position..... I think you may have your culprit

Also not mechanically loose doesn't mean it's functioning properly

You sure? Pretty sure it's always been this way, as was my 3G, and have just tested the button about 10 times and it works flawlessly...

All of my iphones have been the other way around....

Turn on mute and you get the screen animation.... turn off mute and it buzzes with a screen animation.

Mine doesn't, turn on mute (so you can see the Orange)and It vibrates and shows the Bell with a line through it on the display (if the display is on).

Update: Still no resolution but I have had the sound on all day and every time it buzzes I get an audio notification as well.  Has happened about 8 times today (that I heard / felt), without my phone actually getting any new notifications / changes.

I suspect it's facebook app, because it's a notification sound I recognize, and there was a facebook app update the other day.  My facebook account has not recieved any updates tho, so it seems very unusual to me.

My 4S vibrates momentarily when the switch is set to mute, but not when it's switched back to the 'ringing' position. It's strange that other people are having varied experiences with this.

That's a very good theory. I recently had a problem where media was refusing to play, and I eventually traced it to a rogue app that appeared to be locking down an API and preventing any other app from playing sound or video.

The Facebook app is very buggy, so maybe try uninstalling it and then go through a process of elimination with other apps if you need to. I know it's a pain, but you're likely to find a culprit if you do this.

You could try backing up and reinstalling everything just to discount a rouge app and/or software glitch.

Problem solved.

It was a rogue app.  No notifications were showing anywhere, but phone would vibrate.  No issue since it was deleted!
