Hi

Grand daughter has come over from Aussie and she has a Optus Iphone 4S.  Being a clever bugger I thought I would put my 2 degrees sim in it so she can call/text Aussie.  Now the phone comes up with a prompt for a activation code.  This happens whether the 2 degrees sim is in or the original Optus sim.

Anyone know how I get a activation code for it?  Will she have to wait until she returns to Aust?

Thanks

Guessing the phone is locked to Optus in Australia hence getting asked for an unlock code when a non Optus SIM card is being inserted into it.

Weird though that the phone is still asking for an unlock code even after inserting the original Optus SIM card back.

Ring apple?

Do whatever you want to do man.

Are you experiencing this or something else? I haven't seen the term "activation code" on any Apple documentation so I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about.

No not sim locked.  Needs activation, looking into it more it looks like JohnR's suggestion may be the answer.

It's locked to Optus. It's common with iPhones, once you insert a sim from another provider it will ask you for activation again. It needs to be factory unlocked.

Bugger, oh well she will have to wait until she goes back.

ring optus for the unlock code. chances are you might have served out the waiting period or served out enough to only need to pay a small fee

There is no such thing as an "unlock code" for an iPhone. Optus may unlock the phone but there are no codes involved; it's all done through iTunes. If the phone is asking for a code then it's not due to locking.

This is the message that appears when the phone is locked to a different operator:
