I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 7 without drama BUT battery duration took a real hammering. The phone also continued to fail to connect properly on FaceTime (common glitch apparently). So I did a clean install of IOS 7 and reinstalled the apps I was using (but did NOT do a restore from backup), syncd my music back to the phone.

Wow! IOS 7 runs way faster than it did after the original upgrade, battery duration is once again great (better than it was on IOS 6) and FaceTime works properly.

So if you're having battery duration issues or your phone has slowed down I'd highly recommend doing a clean install.

All those fancy (and utterly pointless) 3D animations that are reportedly making people motion sick, also help drain your battery. Well done Apple.

Whats the point in spending $000's on a smart phone then turning off all the cool stuff?  Personally I like the virtual 3D and other "fancy" features.

OP...thanks for the tip, but personally haven't noticed any marked difference in battery performance under iOS7 (fancy features turned on)

Although look at windows 8 compared to windows 7 or vista. Both had cool windows effects like transaparency and 3d flip, and vista even had animated wallpapers. But these have all been removed in order to make it less resource hungry.

I have heard that the battery issue could be related to the ios install renindexing things and doing background tasks after the upgrade. I have heard that the battery life improves after it has completed those tasks.

I'd highly recommend always doing a clean install on any device when you go from one full version to another (i.e. 5 to 6 to 7, not the point releases in-between).

I found after upgrading to iOS7 the battery did take a hammering, but doing a full reset incl settings helped pretty good
