Probably best to consult the almighty Apple! I've seen this a fair bit though, let it do a full battery discharge, charge and then try a reset. Also try checking your usage meter to make sure it's not just the % indicator out of whack!
Mine did this a few months ago. It would usually get to around 16%, no matter what I was doing, and would shut down and behave like battery was drained. Wouldnt turn on until it was plugged in. Restored and everything, did nothing.
Called apple, gave my credit card details to them, they put a hold on it for 1K (new iphone), sent me a replacement the same day, had it the next day I believe. Then I tried the new phone, worked fine. Packed old iphone up, called TNT courier, they come pick it up, 3 days later, hold on card is released and I had a replacement phone. Couldn't be easier.
Give them a call, they usually come to the table for things like this.
Colour me impressed, I rang the support number above on my lunch break around 1pm, my forward replacement phone arrived at work 9am the following morning from Aussie.
