Since upgrading to IOS7, I have had major problems with my gmail account, using the ipads built in mail software. It doesn't seem to connect to download emails, or send emails. I totally wiped the mail account and reset it up again, and that did fix it for a while. But it is again not doing. There is no error message, it just hangs with the loading icon. I am just using the normal automatic settings when setting up a gmail account. I am now having to use gmails own app, which works fine, but prefer apples on mail software, especially when manging attachments. Anyone have similar problems. It also occurs on both wifi and 3g, so is not ISP related.

Google has stopped supporting this function on iDevices. Plenty of info on the net about this...

So it worked fine on iOS6 but upgrading to iOS7 made it break?

Try setting it up as an exchange account. You'll find instructions on the net somewhere.

My understanding is that it's only the exchange bit they've stopped supporting - and only then, when a new device is purchased, on an existing device it should continue to work (if it was previously being used on that device). Failing that, fetching/imap through the iOS mail app should still work.

That can't be the reason, because after I reset it up, it worked for a few days perfectly. It then stopped yesterday. No errors , it just hangs.  I can sometimes send an email. You would think if it had been removed, apple would have changed the default gmail settings in ios7, or removed it altogether.

Thanks, I may try that, although more of a hassle to setup, and to find all the settings I need to use.

My test gmail account is still working on my test iOS device after upgrading from 6 to 7

Is it the same device, was the iOS device restored or factory reset etc?

Vote with your feet and switch to an email service that still offers free push email like outlook.com ;)

It is the same device, just a simple IOS ugrade from 6 to 7, and never done any factory reset.

Odd, there seems to be lots of people complaining in forums online about this too, but mine continues to work for some reason

It will keep working until you restore from backup

I haven't done any restorations or backups. Just a straight upgrade. There isn't that much info about it eitehr, as I consider myself pretty tech savy, but hadn't heard of this. I had heard they were grandfathers some things like outlook calendar sync but existing users could still use it.

You would think that apple would at least remove the gmail option from the mail settings in ios7, so they are really as much to blame for all the people who appear to be having problems.
