Hello,

A friend has tried to organize their camera roll into separate folders, which worked perfectly.
The issue is that when they had finished moving the pictures around, they deleted the originals from camera roll and it deleted them from the folders too!

Personally I think this is poor design on apples part, but whats happened has happened. I just need to know if there is a fix?

P.S. I've tried the Dr.Phone and Leawo recovery tools (I think they are a scamming tool, OFC they didn't work :/)

Thanks in advance,

By folders, do you mean Albums? Creating Albums is a good way to share only certain pictures and movies or just categorize them, but there will only be the one original picture or movie, kept in the camera roll. Delete the original from the camera roll and yes, it'll remove it from the Album\s.

It's done that way to save space basically. If you created a copy of a picture or movie each time you added it to an album that would just take up unnecessary space.

Are they still in the photo stream perhaps? This operates independently from the Camera Roll.

Given that IOS runs sandboxes for each app, it is highly likely that once the files were deleted that that space was given back to the central OS for reallocation to other apps and the Db for the photo app was rebuilt with the empty camera roll, the chances of finding the files intact is very low, if not zero.

When did they last back up thier Ipad?,

If its important they are going to miss them, it is important enough to back them up.

Sorry to be cruel, but as more and more people store more and more digital "memories" they need to ensure that they have more than one point of failure.

No problems.

Check to see if Photo Stream is actually switched on first, that may save you some time. If they only have the one iDevice they may not have it turned on. Under Settings, Photos and Camera, first option is Photo Stream On\Off.

Its turned on,

Also I found a "Storage & Backup" option under the "iCloud" Settings menu. In there is a list of the files backed up :P Photos are ticked and say 600MB~ so Hopefully I'm in luck and their memories aren't lost forever.

Regardless of the outcome, I will talk to them about the importance of backing up data.

If it's turned on then you should see My Photo Stream under Albums. Check in there for the photos.

and if they have a computer get them to install the icloud control panel - this can be instructed to download all the photos - which can then be backed up when the computer is (I say when, not IF :D ).

I managed to find a piece of software that downloads and extracts iCloud backups. Luckily all their pictures were there. The only downside is that you still need iTunes to sync the pictures from your PC back to the iPad.
