So I've made my own app, is there a way of getting it on my phone without putting it on the App Store?

Don't know much about iOS, but isn't that what jailbreaking is all about?

You can put your own app on your own phone by joining the developer programme for US$100. Alternatively you can jailbreak for free but things are a bit trickier there (and I haven't done it since iOS 3.1).
