I've resisted upgrading our iPad 2 to iOS 7 because of performance issues reported on that model when iOS 7 first released. However, I understand the 7.1 update was meant to go a long way towards resolving this.

Is anyone here running iOS 7.1 on an iPad 2? If so, how do you find the performance? Should I still be wary of the upgrade?

I upgraded my parents to 7 then 7.1 and it's actually been fine throughout. Once they had it hang and didn't know what to do, but a reboot fixed it. It seems slow, but that's probably just because I'm used to our Air.

Well, I decided to take the plunge. No problems so far, with performance comparable to what it was with iOS 6.

Yup, I've upgraded 23 so far, no issues but that one needed an image restore as some apps didn't make the transition too well.
Speed comparable to 5 and 6 both

You might as well upgrade to iOS 8 in a couple of weeks too...!

Yes,

Anyone else watching this thread... Be advised, you have about 2 weeks left to transition tto ios7, after which whatever changes (or speed) ios8 brings will be your only option :)

Personally I'm looking forward to it!
