I do 99% of my web browsing, online shopping etc on my iPad (3G, ipad2). I'll go weeks at a time without sitting down to a desktop.

I've been doing a lot of reading but not really narrowing down my list yet!

I'm looking for a password manager that will tick the following boxes:

Works really well on the iPad, with all of its features, settings etc available.

Generates passwords where you can force it to use a certain length, not use special characters etc (eg for banking sites that insist the password has to be 8 characters)

Will be good at filling in password fields in apps and browsers.

Can be backed up/synced/exported.

Not really keen on a separate browser - if possible I want to keep using ios Safari (or maybe ios Chrome).

Can be used sometimes different non-trusted work pcs, where I won't be able to install software (so maybe a usb stick with the program & vault on it?)

Happy to pay ~USD 20 or so.

I'm posting this in the ios forum as I'm really keen to only hear from heavy ipad users. (The usage is heavy, not the user!)

A vote for eWallet by Illium software. All the mobile clients as well as OSX and Windows. Good use of the iPad screen real-estate. Syncs between clients either over Wifi or through Dropbox or iCloud. Good password generation. Supports insertion into Safari, and you can also manually copy & paste passwords.

Try 1Password. It can be used in different browsers and syncs with your desktop browsers via iCloud.

Not sure if it ticks all your boxes but I also use 1Password on my iPhone and iPad.
I plan to start generating random passwords for some important accounts any day now :) just haven't got around to it yet.
I've bought both my mum and dad the app too to try to address the old person + lots of accounts these days problem.
It will autofill in its own browser now and I believe extensions for iOS will be a new feature, allowing it to autofill in any app. I think touchID will be an option too under iOS 8. Good stuff.

Cheers,
Joseph

Hi I use mSecure works across all my devices. 256 Blowfish encryption.  I have had no issues with this app and is also great at making random passwords.  Simply copy and past on my iPad for my secured apps.

I use Keepass.

It is free, open source and has ports to every major OS.

I also like that the data file is stored locally. I don't quite trust cloud password managers. Of course you can copy the data file to the cloud if required.

I've used Keepass, LastPass and PasswordBox.

Keepass is great, but you need to spend a lot of time setting it up. LastPass worked fine, but I had some small niggles with it. Not sure about Safari but works really nicely with Firefox. PasswordBox is my current choice. Nice UI and seems to work really well. There is the odd site that you need to save manually though. All 3 have free trials (Keepass is totally free) so you can experiment without cost.

I've just seen a tweet saying 1Password has gone free for today. Can't verify that myself but you should definitely grab it if it's free.

Cheers,
Joseph

Thank you for the input everyone, I've plumped for Lastpass Premium and it seems pretty good but there is definitely a learning curve!

Cheers guys.
