I am considering replacing my nexus 5 with an iphone 6 or 6+ as im a bit sick of the poor camera and battery.

One of the main uses for my phone is to watch movies on my 2 hours round trip train ride.
Just wondered what apps you guys use to watch movies? as I havent found anything that will play all my mkv files - particularly with DTS/AC3 audio codecs.

its the only thing stopping me from getting the iphone and veering me towards the note 4.

Thanks in advance folks.

Sam

I'm not sure if it will be any better on battery.  But it should contain the sound.  I just like it cos no matter whether I watch at home, on train, on ipad/tv/apple tv/laptop it keeps track of what I've watched and not watched.

I use Air Video HD. I have had no luck with Plex or any of the DLNA apps. It could just be my NAS, but they never display everything, and what they do display is a disorganised mess. So, AirVideo HD it is - pretty reliable, and I can just point it at a share drive mounted from the NAS.

Another vote for Plex.

I have iTunes running on my Windows server and that serves my LAN aTV's fine, however the Apple "Videos" app/iTunes is broken when dealing with large libraries and therefore if I'm streaming to my iPad or iPhone within my LAN at home I use Plex.  Plex is also brilliant when outside my LAN - was recently in the USA on holiday for four weeks in July with the family and we regularly streamed movies and TV shows from the server to my laptop or iPad in the evenings while in hotels/apartments/houses.

If you run Plex plexpass is great. Vlc and OPlayer HD is very good as well and you don't have to transcode.
