I have looked through the apple forums but have not been able to resolve a recent issue that has beset me, my partner and at least one other person I know. Replies sent to a message from my phone, will turn up on my iMac.

I have worked through suggestions on the apple forums including changing the iMessage settins, Sighing out of iMessage, restarting the phone, then reactivating iMessage. I am very confused.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Yes, me. Sync between iDevices is not working properly. I did come across others discussing this on a forum somewhere so I'm pretty confident its an iOS issue. Apparently an update is coming soon & hopefully it will include a whole heap of bug fixes.

I'm also getting the problem with my MacBook hijacking FaceTime. I can hold my iPad, expecting a FaceTime call and never get notification that there is one incoming. The person calling gets a message that I am unavailable yet it will be ringing on the MacBook at the same time. This was also reported somewhere (wish I had bookmarked the URL's so I could post them).

Isnt it normal to have the iPhone, iPad and Mac using iMessage concurrently if all are set to the same Apple ID? Thats how mine works, and its great. Or am I reading the post incorrectly?

The Facetime issue is Continuity. If my iPhone gets a call, my iPad rings also, but when I answer on my phone the iPad still rings, thats a bug

You are correct and iMessage workd across devices using the one appleID. The problem is with replies going to another device. It is a pain when I am at the pub and replies are going to the computer at home.

Thats how it usually works for me. I can't recall any instances where an iMessage only goes to my iPhone or my MacBook, but its reasonably common to have lag between messages received on the two devices.

I have this problem too. iMessages go to my iPad, but it's not until I open my iPhone and send a new iMessage to the person do the iMessages suddenly update and appear in the convo on my iPhone. It's incredibly annoying, because if I didn't hear my iPad ring as well, I would never have known I got a message.

I want to join in too :D

But yeah, I've been having the same issue with iOS8. Also been having similar issues with group imessage conversations since I moved to the 6 plus :/

Hi all - I'm not sure whether it's good luck or good management, but I have an iPhone & iPad on iOS 8 and a Macbook Pro on Mavericks and iMessage is working really well between them. I'm guessing that trouble may lie in the "you can be reached by message at" and "start new conversations from" settings under the "Messages" settings on iOS and the "accounts" setting under "preferences" on Mac OS.
In all instances I have my cell number and Apple ID listed and ticked under "reached at" but only my cell number ticked under "start conversation from".
WRT incoming calls ringing on my iPhone and the iPad as mentioned by tdgeek - I'm finding that if I answer a call on my iPhone the iPad will only ring for a brief moment more and then stop. Is your iPad not stopping ringing at all?

Cheers,
Mike

It didnt appear to want to stop by itself, maybe it did, I will watch that.

I also have no issues with iMessage, but I did, so I changed the send from on the rMBP and iPad, to what I cannot recall, but likely to be as per Mikes post. Will check tonight and update here

From memory, settings->messages, you can have messages delivered to a phone number, or Apple ID - try sending to the phone number, and that should restrict it to the one device.

No, it doesn't, unfortunately. I've played with all settings but there's a real issue with sync. It's really frustrating to send a message via iOS and wait for a reply, only to find the reply is showing on the MacBook, or vice versa. Hopefully, with the release of Yosemite and next week's release of iOS8.1 this bug will disappear.

In your example Elpie, the reply turns up on the MacBook, does it get to the phoneater, or not at all?

I've got the problem between iPad and MacBook. My husband has the same issue but between iPhone and iPad. It's pretty consistent too - send an iMessage from iPhone and not get a response, then see the response is on the iPad. Sending a follow-up message from the same device as the original outgoing message triggers a sync and all messages suddenly appear. So, they are all there just not getting delivered to the right place.

All the devices are running the same iOS8.0.2 apart from Mavericks being on the MacBook (Im not updating till after seeing some early reports).

Ok, got that, thanks. I don't think there is a bug, the reason being it appears to work normally for others, and it works consistently wrong for you, I feel the settings are not right, and as mentioned by someone earlier, its probably the issue of the right setup of reach at and start new from in settings. Mine works well as in if I send or recieve , all devices (5S, iPad Air, rMBP ) are in sync. If I turn my rMBP on, its ourt of date (as its been off), a minute or so later it has updated itself.

Tonight I wuill let you know how each is setup. Fpr the Reach At and Start new Convo From .

Well, others are reporting it as a bug and I see it as such. Neither of us has ever experienced this before. I had the same settings on the same gear working perfectly, until iOS8. My husband changed to iPhone 6 but settings remained the same. I've had an iPad for years without experiencing this before so it has me stumped. Even a complete reset and setting it up as a new device (rather than restoring - just in case it was settings) didn't fix it.

I worked through instructions on the apple forums but they have failed to resolve the issue. I believe the issue is to do with the iMessage service as I have seen it happening across various combinations of devices.

A separate issue: There may be something odd going on with either iMessage or IOS8 because my partner has both mobile data and iMessage turned off and is still receiving iMessages when she is not on WIFI. We have given up trying to resolve it and are waiting for an update as well.

I am not expecting an IOS update to resolve the issue but will be pleasantly surprised if it does.
