iOS 8 is meant to allow you to relay SMS and MMS messages to other iOS devices, e.g. use your iPad to send and receive text messages through your iPhones account.

Both my iPad and iPhone are running iOS 8.1, but the "Forward Text Messages" option is not there?

I am with Spark, is this a feature that is carrier dependent?

Edit: typos

I'm with Spark and got a prompt to set this up. I haven't actually tried using it, but the option is there for me.

I got some prompts about iMessage I think, didn't think they were related.

On your iPhone, if you go Settings>Messages do you have a "Forward Text Messages" option?

So you're looking in the Settings>Messages> menu? Are you able to take a screenshot of what is listed in there?

I'm on Spark and got around to setting this up today without issue.

Yep (it's actually called "Text Message Forwarding").

You need to have iMessage enabled

OK, figured it out.

I needed to enable my iPhone phone number in the "You can be reached by iMessage at" setting on the iPad. Then the option showed up on the iPhone (before doing this the option wasn't even there.

Thought I had it figured out. When i try to enable it the iPhone prompts to "enter the code shown on my ipad". What code? is it meant to pop up on my iPad?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I just got prompted to set that up by my iMac today - which has been running 10.10 since it was released as the Beta about a week before launch.

I had to enter some code on my iPhone.

Not sure why it took this many days to suddenly do that.

You have to instigate the process from a device that isn't your phone.  E.G. run Messages on your Mac and type a phone number to send a message to that isn't an iMessage recipient (i.e. just a plain SMS message).  When you press enter or send it will then prompt you with a code to enter on the iPhone.

Same goes for the iPad.  Kick off the process on the iPad, then enter the code on the iPhone that appears on the iPad.

If it doesn't work first time, reboot both devices and make sure they're on the same WiFi network.

Easy.
