Hi all

I had a wee search but couldn't find the answer I was after.....

I have a LOT of pics on my phone and so went to copy them off into a folder on my computer.....

Pictures were stored in about a dozen different folders in no particular order at all - certainly not date related anyhow.

Many times I found files with duplicate names and soi had to create extra sub-folders to store them rather than overwrite.

Why does Apple do this? Surely a simple sequential numbering system would be best?

Is there a way to set this up? ie a sequential file numbering protocol?

also...in a Windows topic - silly question I expect but is there a way to renumber/name all of the pic files on my desktop in one easy foul swoop?? (I'm sure this is going to get a 'rolls eyes' reaction!

I think if you install the iCloud Control Panel for Windows you can sync the photos with proper names/metadata rather than just copying the raw data from the phone.

For bulk renaming files in Windows just select all the files you want to rename that are in the same folder, right click the first file and click Rename. Once you rename it the subsequent files will have the name with a suffix of (1), (2), (3), etc. If you want more granular control on the naming convention use something like Bulk Rename Utility - but it's not for the faint of heart.

Dint thry already have a sequential number?

I plug myne In to windows and it shows up like a camera. With phones showing up img_9999 just like a camera.

I use an app on my IOS devices called PhotoSync.
With the companion app running on windows, you can sync all your photos/videos to your PC over wifi and you don't have to rename anything.
You can choose where you want to put the files, very convenient, especially since I have over 2,600 photo's on my iPhone!

I don't remember if it's a Paid app or not, but they don't cost a great deal anyhow.

I wanted to use that app. To migrate for using the eye fi app which does similar.

But I couldn't see if you could specify the directory names: eg c:\photos\iphone\yyyy-mm-dd and a different path for another phone.
