I have an unlocked iPhone in NZ and am on the Vodafone network. The iPhone is not receiving SMS text messages from Vodafone or Telecom or from any network around the world. I 'CAN' send text messages, send emails, browse Wi-Fi and access google maps and weather. no problems there. Just not receiving the text messages.

Can someone please help me how to setup to receive texts..

Thanks

All I can say that text messaging doesn't need to be setup. The mobile automatically receive text messages.

Maybe its to do with the unlock problem

don't know if this is of much help but you are the 3rd person complaining that mobile not receiving sms. can send but not receiving.

my other friends complained to vodafone and got them fixed. have you tried another mobile just to rule out vodafone/sim card issues?

Usually this is the case yes, but f1dinesh is using a hacked iphone, so there may well be issues with this, in fact I would almost guarantee this is the source of the problem.

@ f1dinesh, perhaps you could try & contact Vodafone, they maybe able to help, but since this phone is not currently supported to work on their network, you may not get very far.

Start with this. Make sure your SIM card works flawlessly on other handsets before blaming on your current device.

No, it's not the sim. it's the phone. When I transfer the sim to another phone it receives all the messages...

i think you need to get the phone to iphone technicians. vodafone won't be able to help you. i dont think geekzone would be able to help you as it is not a simple setup issue here ... tried any google forums (err the legal ones of course)?

I don't think there are any iPhone technicians here, are they? not just yet. Yeah i've been looking at forums thru google, every forum.

First, jailbreaking to bypass iTunes registration and then used apptapp application, cyberduck in macos x to unlock iPhone.

Hey all,

Same problem here in Australia with Vodafone.
It is driving me crazy and I can't seem to find an answer yet. I'll let you all know if/when I find the solution and will post, would appreciate if others can do the same.
Thanks!!

Looks like the iphone has problems with non-internationally significant phone numbers.

http://www.modmyiphone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=b3a4d9e5b64b750aca771def30f9b2e4&t=5507&page=2

Basically, if the number on the SMS doesn't start with a '+', the iphone firmware drops it on the floor.

So, anyone know someone at Vodafone who can make their network perform the necessary normalisation? :)

Otherwise, I guess you need to convince all your friends to update their address books. :)

There are also mentions of carriers considering the device change a fraud attempt (Optus), a crash in the iphone SMS app (deleting the SMS db from the phone resolves this one,
and another one that appears to be resolved by reflashing the firmware (I think).  The iphone dev wiki has info on their software unlock page.

You see, this is why Vodafone does not support parallel imported handset - they are not tested to work and cannot be guaranteed to work. The handsets should work with the network, not the other way around so asking Vodafone to change their network because of one model can break a lot for other people who uses phone that actually work, right?

Wouldn't this be affecting all iPhone users in NZ then? and clearly there are users on geekzone that can receive txt's on their iPhones.
(oh and if a number isn't in my phone book and I receive a call/txt from them it always shows up in the international format.. as far back as I can remember)

Yes, you are absolutely correct, hence the use of a smiley.

Not necessarily.  It could be a problem with a single SMSC which might be running a different softare load from the others.  It could be any number of different things.  I'm sure that given a reasonable knowledge of Vodafone's network and the accounts that are having trouble (it doesn't seem to be universal), it would be pretty easy to track it down.  It could even be a problem related to the type of hack used to unlock the phone.  However, as Mauricio pointed out, it's an unsupported handset.

All I did was type "iphone sms receive problem" into google, see the post and summarise it here.  If you read the linked thread, you have as much information on the subject that I do.

From the other thread, it seems that several messages will originate from non-internationally significant numbers.  It was mentioned on the thread that Vodafone (Aus?) presents SMS's from voicemail as coming from the text address Voicemail, not a phone number at all.

[conspiracy mode on] Anyone else notice that this has happened after the O2 announcement?[conspiracy mode off] hahahaha!
