Surprised no one's mentioned this part of the announcement yesterday. From April, stream the entire HBO catalogue on demand for $14USD\month. I reckon ~$4 of that will be going straight to Apple, but if you have a US iTunes account this should be very easy to get. 1st month is free too...

How much GoT can you watch in a month? Since I've never watched it, probably quite a bit!

5 Seasons to catch up, when Sky did SoHo Popup for S1-S3 for S4 premier last year, we watched up to 3 or 4 episodes per night - as we recorded them. So you could essentially binge sparsely and watch it all and complete in 2-3 weeks time. Sky SoHo started doing S1-S4 to lead up to S5 premier simulcast with US on 13/April 1pm NZST!

Looks cool.  Assuming there is no isses using an NZ credit card, I will probably will try out in conjunction with Netflix USA and Lightbox which I have at the moment - will still be paying about the same as just Sky Basic even with all three together.
roughly $20NZD for HBO,  $15 for Lightbox,  $10 for Netflix = grand total $45.
Crummy Sky Basic with the standard digital decoder..... $48.07

(ETA: I still can't believe when I look at that the difference in value you get comparing sky basic with this stuff. It's totally crazy how anybody would take Sky basic - other than it being a prerequisite to get sport)

slightly off topic, but I've been tracking what my family have been watching recently, and at the moment in the Netflix vs Lightbox contest, Lightbox is actually the clear winner in terms of hours of content watched.

The kids prefer the Lightbox interface, and they like a lot of the local NZ/Ozzie content that Netflix doesn't have - The Wiggles, Cool Kidz Cooking or whatever it's called,  and even Dora the Explorer isn't on Netflix US, but is on Lightbox.

We're also watching adult stuff together that AFAIK isn't on Netflix US but is on Lightbox - Vikings, Suits, Homeland, Better Call Saul.
The wife has been been watching Outlander but it's not my cup of tea.

None of those are on Netflix USA. I CBF to check every other country when I want to watch something so maybe they are on other regions.

Other than House of Cards S3, we're really only using Netflix for movies at the moment, but we very rarely watch movies now.
I'd probably consider cancelling Netflix altogether if it wasn't for House of Cards Season 3, and the fact that it is only $10/month anyway which I don't even notice.

I watch a lot of documentaries on Netflix, one of the advantages they have, imo.

$10 a month is peanuts eh, crazy when you consider the sheer amount of content you get vs a Sky sub.

Re the HBO announcement, will that have the current season of GOT?

Better Call Saul is on Netflix Sweden amongst a few other countries.  I think Suits is somewhere around the world too.

Yeah, I figured they might be.

Just a PITA to switch regions all the time.  (not too bad for me, but training the wife to do it - no chance)

I use an iPhone and iPad and have links directly to the region changer in Unotelly.  This makes it as easy and painless as possible.

Yes.

Only exclusive for 3 months. Apple just gives them a huge initial launch platform.

Doesn't stop it being a dick move. How many million Rokus are out there? They are artificially limiting their potential audience, by tying it to what was the third most popular streaming device in 2014 (http://www.cnet.com/news/more-households-buying-streaming-media-players-roku-still-tops/).

HBO have been absolutely awful offering their content online and they start their streaming service with an exclusive launch to one device platform, which is entirely unnecessary and just pisses off people that don't own an Apple TV. Even if they had simply sold it as available on Apple TV first, we are still developing other platforms it would look better than "Exclusive" to Apple TV.

Well it's not just Apple TV sorry, it's iOS devices too, so hundreds of millions of devices all with credit cards attached. If you were a content provider looking for instant market share it's far from a dick move. If you don't have an Apple device however, sure.
