Nice feature but not always relevant.
How much space taken up?

Why switch from Google maps otherwise?

Unsure of what the space taken on iOS would be, but on Windows Phone, the NZ Map is around 100mb, for all of Europe it would be 9.7GB, all of the US, 4.7GB. But you can choose countries/states in each region.

Full offline navigation is the biggest reason over Google (which only allows a small subset to be used offline)

UI differences may be a reason for you also.

Public transport navigation is also supported in 950 cities in 50 countries.

Oh I see it's available for Android too, but not in NZ, I wonder why, obviously they have the maps.

I have it (and the downloadable NZ maps) on my Note 4 - Android 4.4.4.

It's OK, but at the end of the day, I still prefer Google Maps. I compared both programmes going from Welly to Tauranga and they both showed the same route. Coming back was a different story with HERE showing a 50 km detour.

Go figure!

Yes, I did some investigating and for some reason it thinks my phone isn't compatible thats why I couldn't see it. I have a Zenfone 5 and one of the variants has an intel processor so I guess they just did a blanket ban on them.

You could:

- Download NZ maps, knowing that if you go on trips in your town, or wherever, you can run the GPS app using GPS radio and therefore as much battery. Or data.

I wonder if countries, like NZ, get regular updates. I'd expect road works to be out of date though.

There is a local Here team of 6 in NZ that are regularly updating the map data and POI's. Generally there are 3-4 updates a year.
