As the Apple Watch has released and quite a few people on here have said they are getting one, so what are people thinking about their new device they have.

I personally flew to Australia to pick mine up (delivered to an Aussie address) and have used it for the last few days.
After you work out how to get around all the options and button/screen presses its quite easy to use. Not used any other smart watch myself I found the experience quite good.

During the release a large number of applications where upgraded on the IPhone so they supported the Watch.
Airnz app, trip it, Skype, stocard, trip advisor to just name a few all seem to have a great UI just for the Watch.

The maps app was quite impressive. Set a location and it will vibrate differenct ways for left, right and straight ahead etc plus displaying maps/directions on the Watch. (Maybe a little unsafe looking at the watch whilst driving)

I get around a day of power I found (with quite an intensive usage) and didn't have to go into power saving mode at all.

Eating whilst wearing the watch - the screen comes on all the time as you are moving your wrist all the
Time up and down. Maybe they'll get this resolved somehow.

Siri - it's not supported if you choose NZ as your Siri location. Setting to AU worked fine. Just look at your watch, wait until it comes alive, say hey Siri and it listens to you.

Calling on the Watch - yes it a bit strange talking to your watch but it works, maybe it can be improved in the quality but people can hear you and vica versa.

And yes you need an iPhone 5 and above for it to connect to as that does most of the smarts ( not not all of them). You can play music straight from the watch to AirPlay/bt device plus a few other things without the phone.

I regularly travel to AU for various reasons, I could have done the same and pick one up but chose not to - I was even more unconvinced after actually trying one on.

Will eventually end up with one but I am more jaded by the whole ordering online process - but when I do decide it will be on my terms

Yes online only ordering was a little bit of a hassle. The order said delivery between the 24th and 28th so I guess I was lucky it got delivered in morning 24th (and I was here).

USA was you ordered online and pick up on the 24th in store but that wasn't available in AU.

Congrats on your purchase. Which version did you get? And do you find it actually offers some unique functionality or is it just a tech gadget that's cool to have but not really much use considering you have an iPhone in your pocket?

The 38mm one as the 42mm was all sold out (none were available as far as I could tell 2 mins after they came to be purchased)
That's ok as I have a small wrist. Yes it's a geek thing in getting one but I have to look at my phone less now for stuff and in the future when more stuff like Facebook in integrated it will be better

Got my 42mm Space Grey Sport earlier today. I'm loving it to bits. Only other experience with a smartwatch was the first gen Pebble which left me underwhelmed, but this is leagues more enjoyable to use.

I remain unconvinced as to the actual point of it.

I recently bought a Garmin Fenix 3 which has limited smartphone notification etc but I can't really see the point of even that much watch based phone functionality TBH. My phone is rarely not on my person somewhere and I am not so jaded yet that taking it out to look - or just ignoring it until I want to look - is too hard!

The only one of the Apple watches I actually liked was the black steel version and that was almost $2,000 which is mad for something that will be scrap metal by this time next year when the cool kids want the Apple Watch 2.

This ^^^^

I have ordered one of the new pebble steel that should arrive in July/August, and will look at the Alcatel watch when released as I do like the idea of the smart watch but don't like the idea of the $2000 price tag for the one I would want.

At $500 - $1,000 I would have had one but over that it is no longer a throw away gadget.
