Hi guys,

I've searched for help on this one everywhere with no concrete advice - and have either been ignored or flamed on offshore forums (where people seem to be really quick to flame if they think someone's a n00b). So I thought, worth a shot on my home turf in case someone has experience of this.

I'm running an unlocked iPhone on VFNZ, bought unlocked off Ebay. My problem is, the phone is running the original FW 1.0.0 (with 03.12.06_G modem FW) and was unlocked using anySIM 1.0.2, the one that messes up your baseband. I want to update it to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 but can't figure out how to revirginise the phone as all the procedures for this are for the 03.14.08_G modem FW, the one that comes with iPhone FW 1.0.2.

Has anyone updated the FW on an unlocked 1.0.0 phone, and can they tell me the steps they followed?

I could just update to 1.1.1, which will "brick" the phone and then I can try and recover from that using the revirginising tools - but some people seem to get stuck with bad IMEIs doing it this way and I'd rather have a fully working 1.0.0 phone than an issue I can't recover from.

Any help would be gratefully received ...

Cheers,
Matt

Maybe you should update to 1.0.2 using itunes and then virginize the phone from there. I think if you use idemocracy and virginize it shouldn't matter what firmware you are using, it should still change it. I have owned and sold a couple of iphones and changed the firmware more times than I can remember but both were unlocked 1.0.2 models, not the earlier model you have. There are a couple of other users on here who are running 1.1.2 firmware so hopefully they may chip in with a bit of advice.

I would love to help, but unfortunately I, like marmel, got mine at 1.0.2. I do agree though, upgrade to 1.0.2 with itunes and then use iDemocracy (PC) or iFantastic (Mac) to virginize and upgrade to 1.1.1. My understanding is when you follow the virginizing steps it fixes the issue with the bad IMEI number.

Thanks guys - looks like I might just have to steel my nerves and go for the upgrade to 1.0.2, then revirginise from there. Just to clarify for the sake of pedanticism - when you say upgrade to 1.0.2, would you do this using iTunes' Update button, or would you do an option-Restore? (I'm using a Mac, and I have all the FW packages). Thanks again for the help.
