Have to say I like the new Apple TV, wonder when it will be around in NZ and what the price will be.

This controller looks promising for some casual gaming as well: https://steelseries.com/gaming-controllers/nimbus

No 4K on latest apple tv is missing the boat big time especially when the new iPhone shoots 4K. House of cards etc already offers 4K with many more Netflix shows updating to 4K soon.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Which other streaming box has 4K? And how on earth are they going to transfer that to a 4K TV with any kind of futureproofing?

It looks OK but alas it will be somewhat broken here due to geo blocking etc. For me Xbox One does all that I would want.

For iTunes you just have to set it up as being in the US and have a US iTunes account. No other service or wizardry needed.

For other services geoblocking is a problem no matter what you use, on the Apple TV its been a simple DNS server change (and, of course the needed geo unblocking service) to get around that.

I am going to be using it with my US iTunes account and Unotelly, just like with the Apple TV 3

I suspect the next generation of most boxes, will have 4k built is, but apple had the chance of being one of the first mainstream boxes. Their current box is just playing catchup.I recall they were also slow to 1080 p HD.
Are you talking about 4k standards, as HDMI will transmit 4k. My camera for example will connect to a 4K tv to show 4k videos shot on it.
The new iphone may shoot in 4k, but I suspect the bitrate is low and is heavily compressed. Otherwise only a few minutes will quickly fill the internal storage

There are plenty of android ones that will stream 4k video. Only need HDMI 1.4 to get it at 24/25/30 Hz, HDMI 2.0 gets you to 60 Hz so is acceptable for gaming (but it seems 30 is acceptable in the console world anyway)

2 years back, no 4k would be fine. Now its as absurd on a brand new product.

Unlike the ATV3 and other media boxes, this time I think I'll only jump if I see a plex app on there (which I fully expect) and see noises from the local content providers about supporting it.

I suspect they will bring out a new box next year or two, with 4K. If this box has 4K, then apple only get one 'bite of the apple', as the box will last the person years. But people will buy this new apple TV with 1080p, and then buy a 4K box too in the near future, especially as more an more people buy 4k tv's. It is more of a case of apple slowing down the release of 4k, to milk the older technology for as long as possible, like they did with the previous apple tv.

I read somewhere that it may actually support 4k in the future.

Same, unless there is a native Plex app for Apple TV 4... I will stay with our current Apple TV 2 and 3 that we have now. :-/

Someone will no doubt open one up and do a component breakdown to see if the hardware is compatible with 4K. But for what they are, and the build quality of apple, they are pretty good value device even if they can't currently do 4k. Wonder what the NZ price will be though with the weak NZ dollar. I presume close to $200-$250

I've also heard reports that Siri integration will not be available in the NZ version at launch? WTF?!

Searching on the Apple TV using it's remote is a real PITA. Using the Remote app can mitigate this, but in true Apple tech fashion, that sometimes decides it doesn't want to connect. If Siri worked even 90% of the time (which is a ballpark guesstimate, based on my reliability with it on my iPhone) it'd be a huge improvement over my current status quo.

I can't imagine anything worse than trying to talk to the telly.  And my limited experiences with normal siri have been less that favourable.  Personally could care less about siri.  Apple Remote App I find it a much better interface for typing.

Sounds like you may not have any experience typing text into the search prompt on the ATV using its standard remote then :-)

Siri works really well for me on my iPhone, and as such I use it all the time. If it has a similar level of accuracy when searching for content, it'd be a huge usability improvement for me.

Bonus points for being able to search across ALL Netflix regions for a show. But that'll never happen unless a third party app can be developed to do it, using hooks into the Siri API (if such a beast exists).

Oh I do, but if I need to type an address, or anything more that a couple of letters I'll start the iphone app.
