if you buy a iphone from a Australian apple store does the 1 year warranty work over here? ie in making a warranty claim over the phone with apple

Unless things have changed recently Apple have never offered an international warranty on phones.

I have been able to have a warranty issue on a norwegian bought phone be handled here in New Zealand. Don't know about policy, but they did fix it.

Would suggest you try and don't immediately take no for an answer. 

BTW: With AppleCare+ you will have access to help anywhere they sell AppleCare+.

iPhones bought in Australia works fine here.

Recently had a 16GB iPhone 6 with battery problem, called Apple and took to Harvey Norman, they replaced the phone within 3 days despite knowing I bought the phone from Australia (they could see from the serial number).

Yeah considering you didn't buy it in NZ in the first place, offering CGA wouldn't really make sense anyway.
