I've had my new iPhone6S + for 2 weeks and last night it just went totally dead.  The battery was about 65% full, it was sitting on my bedside table and working fine, then when I went to make a call about 15 mins later it was totally dead.  Home button not working, on/off button not working, nothing happening.  Quick troll around the internet lead me to try home & on/off button at the same time as a 'hard reboot'.  This did bring it back to life.

Now I'm a bit worried that there is an intermittent fault - anyone else experienced this with their new phones?

I'm still on IOS 9.0.2 so not sure what might be causing it.  Had a quick search around, but can't see anyone else reporting it at the moment.

Exact same thing happened to my wife's 5S on Monday. Home button/Sleep button combo fixed it OK, been fine since.

These things happen sometimes, you have a 2 year warranty I think, don't panic.

You need to hold the power and home button down for at least 10 seconds then release the home button.

Failing that plug into the PC or Mac with iTunes installed and see if it pops up

Haha - sorry should have read the whole post - easy answer is that after a soft reset it's highly unlikely you'll have the problem again unless you've got a failing LCD (unlikely)

If you had a new laptop and it froze up , keyboard stopped working, etc, but a long press on the power button rebooted it fine, would you feel the same concern?, i'm thinking not,

Phones are now just small computers, and software glitches can and will occur, don't worry too much, reboot and move on....

Where are you going? If you're going on holiday where there maybe Apple Stores, consider getting AppleCare+ plan NOW! then you should be able to get in-store service from Apple Genius anywhere in the world - with Apple Store presence of course.

I wouldn't worry about it, I'd say its a software issue as it has been reported to be affecting a few users

It sounds pretty terminal, if I was you I would go out now and buy a new IPhone 6s+ so you don't have any more problems on your holiday.
And because I'm feeling generous I'll take the old one off your hands for $100 wink

Had this occur on my iPhone 5 as well as my iPhone 6s Plus. The above fixes it.

Likely iOS bug, not hardware.

laughing That's too kind of you.  Please post me a cheque for $100 + $30,156 to cover the postage, and I will send the phone immediately and reimburse you $30,150 from my Nigerian bonds once the money is visible in my account tongue-out

I have had this happen to me over 4 iPhones at random times but a soft reset has always fixed it, and I have not seen it return regularly.

I have had a lot more crashed on other devices over my life time!

I am going to go out on a limb and say it doesn't sound like anything that should be worried about.

Most iPhones will pay homage to Steve Jobs once a week now, it's just doing that.
