I have a folio case for my iPad which is great for travelling. I would like something a lot more simple for home. I'm after a very slim back only case/cover for my iPad Air 2 just to protect the back and sides when I put it down around the house. It has to be easily removable so I can put the folio case on it when leaving the house, so a skin will not be appropriate. Ideally prefer something which is clear in colour or close to it as possible, but would consider a black option too. Can anyone recommend something which is currently available?

there was a folio case that had a removable top (from the keyboard part)

They weren't available in NZ when I needed mine so I got a Zagg one that was one piece.

Think it was a Belkin Qode pro

Thanks for the suggestion but that is at the opposite end of the scale in terms of what I am looking for. The Qode pro is a keyboard case. I want a very slim (non-skin) back cover only. Cheers.

Cheers but I want just very minimalist back protection for around home. I am happy with the folio case I already have for travelling.

Although not exactly what you are looking for, I got one of these, and it has a slim back black cover built in. I think it is similar to the apple one, but at a fraction of the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/252064217908

When I first got my iPad Air I ordered one of these as an interim solution - the link is to the iPad Air 2 version. It's a flexible TPU sleeve that just covers the back and provides a small lip around the front edge for face-down situations. I actually really love it, although because my iPad goes everywhere with me I did end up getting a full cover. For just around the house it's awesome. Keeps the scratches off the aluminium and makes it easy to hold without adding much extra weight. I got the cover via Amazon - from memory it shipped directly but if not there's always YouShop.

Dick Smith have got some generic ones that look thin and utilitarian, but ultimately what you are after.

With my ipad 2, I did buy a Belkin black snap on plate for it, which was semi clear and had a silicon paint surface for drip. THis looks to be the one http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=544455 , and is probably the sort of thing you are looking for. However it had a major defect in that over time the corners would crack, as it wasn't strong enough to cope with the stresses at the corners. So went though 3 of those and all failed. Then I purhcased a cheap folio cover of ebay, and that has has been perfect. But the cheap ipad 2 magnetic cover I got, which has the magnet on and off feature when you open the cover works great, and quality wise it seems nearly as good as the apple one I had for my ipad 2.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I ended up going for something I found on Trademe, similar to what littleheaven suggested.

I've had three expensive covers on there since then and they've all either broken or started to look really worn, so I always end up going back to the cheap TPU one. When I do, I pair it with a little fuzzy-lined 'sleeping bag' slip case I got at The Warehouse for the times I'm taking it out of the house and need screen protection.

It is somewhat ironic that the cheap ones can be better and more durable than the premium brands. Even the apple one I got started to split.
