I am trying to help an elderly neighbour who has an Iphone4. I am not an Apple user, but, nonetheless, I thought I would be able to hook up to a WIFI connection! This phone had previously been working on his wifi.

I tap on the wifi SSID I want, it tries to connect, then pops up an error saying it can't connect with the only button available being Dismiss. I was expecting it to ask for a password but that was too much to expect. Logic, and a tutorial, showed this is what it is supposed to do so don't know where to go from here.

I tried another route using the "Other" option. I got to where it asked what security setting I wanted then just sat at that screen doing nothing.

Any ideas on what we can do to fix this frustrating situation?

I would suggest tapping on the "i" in a circle next to the SSID and then "Forget This Network" and then try again.

It should "just work", as that is the joy with Apple (normally).  Try above, if that doesn't work then some additional steps here.  I assume you have done some basic elimination checks and ensured the WiFi is actually working?

 Thanks, guys, all sorted now.

The modem/wifi was fine but what seemed to get the password prompt going was to 'forget' the connection then retry. I thought the neighbour had done that in one of many attempts but it doesn't look like he had.

Nothing like a Password prompt!!
