I was wondering if anyone has had an ipod battery replaced by an authorised Apple agent, and what the price of this is? I have heard they just switch it out for a refurb, rather than opening it up and switching out the battery onsite. Anyone been through this process with an ipod?

Apple doesn't do battery replacements themselves in NZ since there's no physical apple stores, they just give you a list of 'Apple Authorised Service Providers' to do it for you, whose prices vary. To give you a ballpark figure Service Plus NZ does it for $170, and they'd most likely give you a refurb rather than replace the battery itself since for the iPod this involves re-soldering etc. If you go to a non-authorised provider they may be able to do it cheaper but you technically lose your warranty (if you still have a warranty).

Probably cheaper to buy another second hand iPod Touch 5th Gen.

Considering that, I would give this a go:

Aliexpress battery

Then sell it for parts if you fail lol.
