latest IOS 10.

My wife said she was on the calculator app, suddenly it went white activation screen.

Said hello welcome in many languages, asked for wifi password to complete activation, after that asked for icloud account and password, then went back to normal but without all the passwords (needed re-entering)

Has anyone had that happen before?

Was it recently authorised to do an update? That's the only time I'm ever prompted like that.

If the download is large, or the data link slow, it might have been chugging away in the background?

You mean it downloaded an update and went to activation lock? The iOS 10 update was ages ago.

Yes, but there have been 2 incrementals since then too, and my own wife only went ios10 last week herself 🙄

That's the only time I've ever been given an activation lock, so was just an idea...

It's possible thanks, I see it is on 10.0.2 so perhaps a recent upgrade but not immediately prior.

Possibly some file corruption has occurred.
