My iPhone 6S Plus is a year old next week and I'm debating moving up to the iPhone 7 plus. I'll get around CAN$280 as a trade-in so there's a big financial hit involved. No market in Canada for second-hand phones as there's too many scammers. So, to those that have made the move - is it worth it? Photos are my primary motivation. if you have moved to 7 plus do you regret not waiting for the next iteration?

Not a big reason to upgrade IMO. The big benefit is it is now water resistant, in case you drop it down the toilet etc.. But apart from that and some hardware improvements, it is it very similar. The iphone 8 next year will be a bigger reason to upgrade, as it should have a far better screen. Potentially apple will probably be supporting the iphone 6s for the next 3-4 years with software upgrades.

I love my iPhone 7 Plus. Not sure what to tell you about upgrading though.

Its nice to have a wide angle and a "zoom" (equiliant to a 56 mm) lense on the same camera, and low light photos are a lot better on it than on the 6S. You can see some tests here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jarledb

Also like the new home button which isn't a button.

The lack of 3.5mm audio jack is a bit of an issue - I actually bought myself an extra adapter after getting my phone and adapter, just not sure how long the adapter will last. To me not being able to charge the phone while listening to music/podcasts are not that big of a deal - its not been a problem so far - even when listening to podcasts after a long day with lost of use.

I also suppose that the issue with the missing 3.5mm audio jack will be less of an issue as I (probably) transition to using wireless headphones (Going to be trying the AirPods as they become available). Will be taking advantage of the 14 days to return them if I am not happy with them. Not typically happy with in ear headphones - so it will be an interesting experiment.

The hop from iPhone 7 to 8 is based on assumptions that they will be doing something special for the 10 year anniversary. I would not put big money on the iPhone 8 coming out next year based on the loose assumptions and rumours floating around at the moment. There is little of concrete evidence of the iPhone 8 or their plans for it.

I would not be surprised if there is a 7S coming out in 2017. Mind you, I am not going to bet large against an iPhone 8 in 2017 either.

Personally, I wouldn't unless you are a big bokeh fan. I am betting on big changes for apple in 2017. My next purchase would be the Nike Apple watch, as I never got into the first gen yet.

If you're in Canada there are sites you can get on to sell your iPhone. Just like anything, common sense prevails in most cases, I have seen many of my friends have traded online and had not taken that much of a hit during their tech upgrades.

I upgraded from a iphone6 and dont notice a lot of difference, and I got $675 for mine on trademe.

It depends on how cash flush you are...

In the same boat i have the 6s plus and thinking of 7 plus. I did see this article can "the clever ones" shed some light on how much of a difference this would make to "Joe Blow" or me! I suppose it is only relevant if NZ gets the Intel models

Depends on whether you want to pay more for less or not

For iP7

- better photos when it's darker

- better photos when you zoom (but not in the dark)

- you really really hate the headphone jack

- you really really like using your phone in the shower or dropping it in the toilet

- you really really like symmetry so you'd pay for apple to drill mirror image holes on the other side of the speaker but didn't put a speaker in it

For iP6S

- you don't ever use your phone in the shower

- you like the headphone jack

There are other subtle differences like when it's time for iOS 12 the 7 will be faster than the 6S. But I gather you'd have a 9 by then. There are tests showing 2-3gb in iOS makes no difference due to how it uses RAM. And the other differences makes no difference to your life. My wife has a 6+ and I want to get her a 6S+. Great upgrade ... maybe that'll be her last iphone ... unless the 8 makes sense. The 7 makes no sense to me. But that's me.

In general the photo quality isn't miles better, although it takes better photos in 3 settings (that's different from photo quality, as I said not miles better. Better if you look at the pixels at 100% but who does that!): 3 situations when it takes better pics

- better when it's darkish, but still hopeless when it's dark

- selfies are moderately better, but only in the light, not when darkish; but you need a selfie stick otherwise your head fills most of the frame

- portraits, macro, pinch zoom better (because taken with the 2x zoom camera - only when it's light, not when darkish it reverts back to the wide angle)

Re: selling in Canada, I had no responses at all, apart from scammers that wasted a LOT of my time, when I tried to sell my iP 6+ when the release date of 6S+ was announced. Not a one. I kept track of a number of adverts on various sites and didn't see any sell. So, I took a $225 trade-in and called it a learning curve.

I'm not into selfies but I do use the phone quite a lot since its always with me. Low light performance is useful where winter sunlight is usually around 1-2 hours a day. Water tolerance could be useful but not several hundred dollar useful.

What I'd really like to see developed is a cold-resistant iPhone. Cold tolerance would be great but isn't likely to happen next year (if ever). All iPhones have hissy fits when temperatures go below 0. Operating the phone in winter is hit and miss. As it is, I think I might wait awhile. Cheers for the feedback.

If you can't make back at least half of the price of the 6S+ selling it then I would say no.

I am seriously considering if I just sell my 7+ and keep the 6S+ I am sure being a 7+ 128GB Jet Black it would sell in no time as they are still in short supply.

May list both on Trade Me and see which sells best!
