So we went out to buy an iPhone 7.
I didn't know that you have to buy one on a telco monthly plan.
Is this true?
How long is that likely to last?

Nope, not true. Just go to Apple's site and buy it.

Buy from Apple you'll likely get it sooner, warranty claims are easier etc.

Made some inquiries about buying a 7 outright at a Spark store on the weekend.  They didn't have the complete range in store but quite a few, and no mention of having to be on a plan.  Surely the JB's and Harvey Norman's have regular stock by now?

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

"iphone 7" yeah no worries available outright ...

"iphone 7 plus" no way.. stock is still so constrained

I got one from PB Tech in the end for the standard $1199

No mention of a plan, but they did say it was meant to be sold as a bundle with a power pack - **despite no mention of that on their website**. They said otherwise they don't make any money from selling them.

We had a bit of a staring match and they said they'd "make an exception" for me.

Even though I got what I wanted, I felt a bit let down. I normally like and trust PB but I'd hate to think of someone less assertive getting bamboozled into spending more than they wanted.
