Hi all,

I got a new iphone 5s from NL, about 6 months.

Went to vodafone to change old sim to new 4G one.

Never been able to get 4G signal.

Been to vodafone to check in Riccarton Christchurch, they had a look reset and checked settings.

No change.

At my work one of the staff has android phone with vodafone and gets 4G, but not me.

Does anyone know how to fix?

Thank you

You're not on an old grandfathered plan?

Only the 'new' plans feature 4g.

From memory the iPhone 5s doesn't have (band 28) 700mhz 4G.

Could you be in an area where only the newer 700MHz 4G exists?

Does this mean 'Noel Leeming' or 'The Netherlands'? If the latter - check the LTE bands it supports to ensure it supports NZ LTE bands (3, 7 and 28, with 3 having the most widely deployed sites).

What plan are you on? Some older Prepay plans don't have access to 4G

OK. Also try the new SIM in a different LTE handset - maybe your co-worker's one, since you know it works? If it works there, then it may be a handset fault. If it does not work there, then there's still something wrong with the Vodafone account. You could also consider trying another carrier's SIM in it, if you have access to one.

Yeah, only band 3 - 1800 - out of our selection, IIRC.

Wow, I didn't know that they didn't provide 4G to older plans. I have a 5S iphone with exactly the same issue. I wondered why one of my sims gave me 4G, while I could only get 3G with another. So that has solved that for me. Pretty poor you can't get 4G on the older plans, as I can't see any technical reason for this. I even go brand new sims when I got the phone. Is this to try to force people to switch to the other plans? The older plans offer bonus data topups, while the new plans don't, but the older plans you get charged more for calling and txts.

It's probably because they pay LTE licenses based on LTE-provisioned subscribers, so they don't provide it automatically. That way they don't pay for your license until you ask for it. Same with us, except we automatically provision you for LTE the first time your handset tries to attach to it so as far as you are concerned it Just Works (TM).
