Sometimes this iPad Air 2 registers taps, but the software doesn't act on them. For example, I might tap a hotlink in Safari, and while the hotlink will be momentarily highlighted, it won't actually be opened. I've seen other buttons animate but not open anything too. They always work when I try again. Is there something I'm missing?

I experience this too but have never bothered to look into it further.  Would be interested if someone knew why this was happening.

Have you updated to the latest iOS? Have you waited a moment to see if anything happens? I know ours can have a bit of a lag sometimes, but eventually it figures out what to do.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

It might be a Javascript thing on the website you're visiting – sometimes iOS will treat a very quick/light tap as a "hover" interaction, rather than a "click" interaction.

For example, the dropdown menus of some websites will register the initial tap as a hover (so that the menu drops down, rather than taking you to the link invoked by that parent item on the menu).

This has been an ongoing issue for me over the past couple of years (iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro 9.7).  I can live with it but thought I'd comment here given another member raised the same issue.  No iOS updates have "resolved" it thus far and I keep everything completely up to date in that department.

I've had this. It's registering you starting to move. Mainly happens when it's on charge since that affects touchscreen accuracy with noise on the power.
