I have been getting international spam calls daily for the last couple of weeks. I can block each number but then the call just comes through on a new one.
Does anyone know of a decent spam call blocker for iOS that is good at identifying spam calls and blocking them. A simple black list isn’t really what I want. I don’t want to block all calls from England and Canada.

Nothing will work - Apple doesn't provide API access.

I just decline the calls, they're annoying but there is nothing either myself, or Vodafone can do about them.

I started using Wideprotect https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/block-spam-calls-sms-mms/id1171024059?mt=8

As @michaelmurfy stated apps don't have direct API access to caller ID, so the app has to create a database of numbers which in turn apple callkit looks at for blocked numbers.

As of 11.3 you can block up to 30 million numbers now, prior to that it was 20, so my 3 wildcard blocks are fully covered now.

I was getting calls daily from the "UK" and "Canada", not answering them as I never get calls from either of those countries. The calls just go straight to voicemail, they accidentally left a message once and it was just Indians talking amongst themselves.

Since then I haven't had any more.

Here's what I'm blocking:

It's by far the least creepiest app, it doesn't need contacts permissions unless you want to whitelist them. It doesn't upload your contacts anywhere and their privacy policy isn't 600 pages long.

Thanks. Doesn’t declining them just send them to voicemail so effectively answering. By accident I answered one and it was an immediate hangup. I checked my account and there was no reverse charge or anything so I am struggling to see the point of the calls.

Thanks. Might be worth the $2.99. Would you suggest avoiding the allow contacts toggle?

Do I have to allow access to all 15 block lists in settings? The processing wheel seems to spin for ages as I toggle each of these

Yeah, just enable them all as each blocklist can only handle a certain amount of numbers - again the limitation is because of Apple. I just toggled them all at once and the ones that didn't toggle I toggled them again lol. Once it's done it's set and forget.

The app will tell you how many blocklists you have to enable in the settings, but I enabled them all before I added any numbers anyway.

And I didn't whitelist contacts as I don't have any within my blocklists anyway

@kharris No way they could reverse charge to your VodafoneNZ account from an incoming call

I have no idea how this is even considered possible

I think their target is to get you to return the call ‘accidentally ‘ racking up premium call charges (even worse for us as it’s ALSO likely billed as an international call too!)

The whole point of the scam is to get you to call them back to see what the call was meant to be about.. at a premium of $50 a minute..

I always answer them to waste their money and its easy to figure it out their intentions.. there is dead air for a while then they start up a real confusing conversation like "Dave.. can you hear me? I cant hear you??"

Here are two articles, one from the Verge, the other from Digital Trends. Both deal with iOS.
