The newer phones are well over my budget and my current phone is old and damaged.

I want to buy an iPhone X (256gb). I like the design and the specifications of the phone is perfect for my use.

However, I heard that when new phones are announced/released that the price of older phones drop. Has this happened yet? If so, I was planning to buy a phone today or sometime this weekend. If not, when should I expect this to happen?

Thanks guys

I take it you've checked out comparison sites like Pricespy?

Pricespy isn't always the most dynamic, and won't always pick up every retailer, but it's still a useful site for this kind of thing - especially if you use the old version, which allows you to track changes in price at the individual store level.

See this: https://classic.pricespy.co.nz/product.php?pu=4474162 - which shows, for example, that Vodafone dropped its price $200 yesterday.

But, wow, that's a lot of money for a phone! But I read yesterday the top-spec new model is close to $3k, which is something else. I struggled to justify to myself spending $970 on my OnePlus 6!

Yes, this is the time to grab an existing X if you are looking at one,

... But don't take too long, Apple have EOL'd  the model so the only stock around will be that which is in the current supply chain, once they are gone... they will be gone..., but they are likely to be discounted to get then out the door..

I'm perpetually gobsmacked by the ability of Apple, Samsung etc to bring out and sell expensive new phones. People that I know who habitually buy them use them as toys, not tools. A $2700 phone? <shakes head>

I struggle to see why people spend $970 on One Plus 6's smile  when they could save a few bob on something like https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Global-ROM-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-5-3GB-32GB-5-99-Full-Screen-Smartphone-Snapdragon-636-Dual/2800188_32863732217.html?spm=2114.12010608.0.0.41e62629NSiAu2

(it might be because I'm really cheap of course)

Yep, or Mi A2 Lite for it's battery or Mi A2 for screen size - great value. Too bad no B28 but I can live with that. Next phone (I'm also cheap) will probably be something like these.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Just checked, both Spark and Vodafone have applied $200 discount on their iPhone X.

I wasn't aware that X was being discontinued, might buy one tonight.

Cheers guys!

Actually ordered the 625 processor version from Banggood a few months ago but it disappeared in the post (NZ Post said it was in a bag of 40 items, only half of which turned up). Banggood told me they'll refund no problem, just waiting for it turn up and I'll order the 636 processor version, but via DHL I think. Was also I think a bit cheaper than the A2 versions.

Sorry for the hijacking but couldn't resist...
