I've noticed that in the settings under mail as well as Exchange and Gmail you can set up Yahoo mail.
I tried this on mine with my Xtra username and password but it didn't accept them. I'm assuming as the web-based end of xtra's email runs through yahoo (maybe I've missed something) it should be possible to have this running smoothly through the iphone with push notification?
:)

If anyone's got it going I'd be interested to hear!

:)

Awesome, yeah it looks like it'd be pretty nifty up-and-running huh!

The thing is I don't think settings dialog-box likes me putting in username@xtra.co.nz as my username....even through that same username logs in to yahoo mail at yahoo.com as well as the mail at yahooxtra.co.nz

Hope someone has the answer!

If you are connecting directly to the pop service (pop3.xtra.co.nz), use the username without the @xtra.co.nz.

If you are using a Yahoo client, then it *should* work. It works ok on the blackberry BIS portal (picks up yahoos push service).

Cheers for that, yeah I assume the pop version will work fine. It doesn't seem to like the username + password combination that works with yahooxtra though.
Hopefully someone's got it going!

OOHH me me! I got it to work!

:)

Seems the only thing is to not do it using wifi the first time it connects!

Pity yahoo's Push doesn't work properly, 20-mins isn't anywhere near instant!

Why can't I browse to "mail.yahoo.com" from my iPhone (2G)? It comes up with some error and it's done thing constantly. I'm talking about from Safari as I presume that I can't use the "Mail" application with a free Yahoo! account.

All Yahoo! accounts are supported by mail - I used to use it with my free Yahoo!7 mail account and it works.

I don't know why you can't access mail.yahoo.com... it works here (though you won't get a AJAX based mail app)

When I try with Mail it says:

Cannot Get Mail: The user name or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect (although I've retried multiple times with the correct details).

And I still cannot load anything but an error page if I browse Safari to "mail.yahoo.com".

I am using my home WiFi.

... so what type of email address do you have (as in @abc.xyz?)

It looks like there is some sort of problem verifying this via. Wi-Fi. It used to work in my iPod 1.1.4, but it doesn't work anymore with 2.0. This looks like another thing to add to the 2.0 bugs list.

But you seriously must have a problem if you can't even go to mail.yahoo.com - have you tried accessing this address using other methods? (e.g. other computer...)

My laptop is constantly connected to mail.yahoo.com.

Yes, it is mental that the iphone can't even load that page.

I have a xxx@yahoo.com account

Is it detecting my IP and not liking a NZ IP?

I'm using 1.1.4 as this is a 1st gen 2G phone.

If Yahoo! rejects all NZ IPs from the iPhone, that would cause major catastrophe! Laughing

mail.yahoo.com works for me on the iPod, and it should work fine regardless.

As for the stupid authentication error, I can get my Yahoo! account to verify again... strange. Go try again.

Am not having any luck and have tried for 2 days, multiple times. Gave up but saw this related thread.

I wondered if having a .com address would be blocked from a NZ IP for whatever reason but then realised that before logging in it doesn't know.

Interestingly if I go to YahooXtra first, and then click the NZ link to the Yahoo mail (YahooXtra in this case), the page loads but dies after I enter my username and password.

Ok got this going in a funny round about way.

Set up Yahoo Mail, and it failed, giving me the error message about wrong username or password.

I cancelled out and went to the Settings app. Under Mail, the Yahoo account was listed, I went to edit it and "changed" the email address by deleting what was there and re-entering it.

This time when it tried to verify the account it worked.

Very strange.

Also still unable to get into mail.yahoo.com in Safari ("page not available at this time"), but can get in to webmail via Yahoo!Xtra.

Finally, I can't seem to enter a reply on Geekzone using my iPhone? The page rendering means I can't select the reply box and enter a reply?
