I'm heading over to Sydney for a long weekend later this month and of course that means a visit to the Apple Store...
Is there any advantage to buying in Australia vs just ordering from here?

Don't buy AppleCare until you get home. You also may not be CGA covered?
wont you have to declare it when you get back?
SpartanVXL: If you get gst off then you’ll save a couple hundred. Apple fudged their exchange rates up when pricing our stuff.
But you pay GST when coming back into NZ so buying in AU is pointless

It's totally not worth it for the minimal savings, if any, you'll get.
If you have to return the laptop for a refund or replacement, for whatever reason, it has to go back to the Apple store you bought it from and Apple will not ship it on your behalf.
The only way you can get a replacement is if a repair is attempted first at an authorised apple service center. I speak from experience on this one.
The loss of the CGA is an important consideration.
By the time you add in Apple care (which only gets you to 3 years warranty) the difference is minimal, if any.
I had my sons Macbook get a new motherboard installed when it was over 3 1/2 years old under the CGA.
I did import a Mac mini once from the USA, even with shipping + GST + AppleCare I saved hundreds of dollars so it was worth it.
However last time I was in Aus (earlier this year) a 15"MBP did not.
Cheaper by default, then theres the tax back on top of it.
