Is Apple's Maps app a viable alternative to Google Maps? I just opened it up and was stunned at how high the fidelity of the 3D satellite view is. Google's attempt is a horrible, soupy mess by comparison. It's like Apple maps is running REDengine while Google is running Gamebryo :D

I used both while travelling in october. both are pretty good, google is a little better but is a vicious beast at sucking the battery dry. Apple is pretty good but has got gaps (I used google to navigate pompeii. Apple say Pompeii was in Naples and thats about it....)

I know they have jumped ahead of google in that Transmission Gully and the Otaki bypass is already showing (both still very much under construction still)

My parent's house in Richmond was built in mid 2016, but the 3D view in Apple Maps is still showing an empty section.

The Erskine development in Wellington fares slightly better. The imagery there looks to be about nine months old.

No idea. I find Google Maps a dreadful way to navigate, especially on foot in cities. The blooming thing sends you all over the place.
