Setup my new Macbook pro yesterday including my Sony MDR-ZX770BN headphones and all was good with the world. Tonight turning things on the head phones sound like they are in hands free mode. Factory resetting them as well as removing and repairing with Macbook gives same result. Pairing with my surface pro is fine as well as my iPhone but it'a like the Macbook is using the wrong profile. Is there anything I have missed here.

Ok so managed to track the solution down and it fixed it so all is good with the world again. Seen the following.

finally figured it out: Going to sound preferences and manually changing the sound input device back to Internal Microphone seemed to switch my headset into headphone mode, making the sound quality worlds better.

Yeah, they still havent fixed bluetooth to let you have nearly OK stereo playback when the mic is running for headset. 15 years and no fix.

Also no high quality mic audio either so any call over bluetooth sounds like an old landline even over things that can do much better like skype or facebook messanger.
