so my wife's iphones have always played difficult to get into the photos. I manually transfer her photos to my Windows 10 Pro x64 PC. Have 2 of those. Iphone is 8 Plus.

It has always given me trouble, some USB ports don't work, some ports work, sometimes the phone disconnects halfway during photo transfers etc.

Sometimes it will not connect until you restart both devices etc, sometimes it connects but won't show you the photos

But today, it just will not see photos. Connects to all computers but no photos showing.

trust my computer is trusted

icloud is enabled but photos are not backed up/deselected

updated itunes

nothing

updated iOS

nothing

hard reset everything

nothing

different cables, tried 4, different USB ports, tried them all!

She did drop the phone once or twice, but that's the only thing I can think of

Maybe this will get her off the iphone to join the dark side - but maybe not

This is getting a bit PITA

anyway, i am resorting to trying third party programs .... (not sure how that will work given it won't show me the photos in the first place!)

after one hour of unplugging and replugging and crashing a few third party apps, the photos have appeared! (i can assure you I did not do anything else apart from these 3 things)

hallelujah praise the lord

that must be the mighty hand of god people talk about! they say god works in mysterious ways

crashing the imazing program was the last thing i did, followed by task manager - kill imazing - checked folder, wolla

the macbook with the right spec will set me back $10,000 NZD

I can get a laptop with the same spec for $3,000

my desktop can be maxed out twice the spec of the macbook for the same $3000.

I still have $4000 left over to buy a 65" OLED TV.

My only question would be how full is the phone? iPhones tend to do bad things if they get full.

Get all the photos off the phone. Make sure everything else you need is either synced to iCloud or wherever or backed up to iCloud or iTunes. Restore the phone to factory settings. put everything back on it and see if that helps. There may be an issue with the iOS software or the storage itself and wiping iOS should help fix it.

It is 256GB phone with 20GB free space

Sorry I don't buy a phone to have to factory reset it every few months, so I won't do that. Will get a new phone when it is time for one. I tend to buy second hand as new iphones every 12 months for the wifey. Buying new apple products make little sense as they don't do discounts/clearance pricing - which is how I shop for other things

None of this sounds like an iPhone issue to me 🤣

OneDrive. Install on phone and on PC. Sync via cloud.

Personally I use iCloud to accomplish the same thing. Don't think I have connected an iPhone via USB to a computer since about the 6 series.

I use dropbox for getting photos off onto a PC which has 8gb of space, although they have now introduced a device limit.

I think she has about 150GB of photos and videos, so cloud will take a long time

I'm sure someone will tell me you can't have 150GB of photos in a 256GB phone, it's just not on.

Just a thought - check in the Lightning socket on the phone for gunk - pocket lint etc. A paper clip or tiny flathead screwdriver will be able to scrape it out.

If there is stuff pushed up against the end of the socket, the cable won't make a great connection.

Also - are you using a certified cable?  - Belkin, Apple etc. $2 shop ones don't work as well.

Another thing. Ensure you’re using the ORIGINAL lightning cable. Third party cables cause issues (speaking from experience) and so I have an original one around for my PC.
