I recently sold my 1st generation iphone ver 1.1.4 and the purchaser asked if I could update it to 2.0.1.   The phone has been updated in the past when I sync the phone but when I go to settings /general/about,  the version is  1.1.4.  What do I need to do to update to 2.0.1?   Is this advisable?  Will it cause problems with the function of the phone.  The phone as not been unlocked or jail broken, but he did not ask me to do this.  Also, how do I erase all of my data/files before sending

You can update your phone to 2.0.1. When you restore your phone to 2.0.1 or any other firmware(1.1.4), that will take care of all your files.
