Hi

My daughter has a MacBook Pro that is approx 1.5 yrs old.

Lately she said it's not holding it charge and the battery is getting rather hot.

She said it seems to be worse when minecraft is running (it's part of one of her subjects at college).

I couldn't seem to find the battery cycle count last night but then I didn't spend to much time looking either.

Is there anything I can do or look for i.e. software related, my initial thought was maybe put it back to factory reset and then try to eliminate software that way.

Otherwise can anyone recommend where in Christchurch we could take it to get looked at.

many thanks

Go into System Profiler and have a look at the battery stats. In there you can see how many cycles it’s had and how much charge it should be capable of holding.

Did you purchase AppleCare when you got the device? If so it’s as easy as calling Apple to get a ticket logged and they will refer you to a local authorised repairer. If not, go back to the retailer you bought it from and talk to them about it. A battery should last longer than 18 months so you’re covered by CGA at the least.

It's not one of the units that are being recalled due to the battery issues is it?

If it is, stop using it immediately and contact Apple as if the issue is a result of battery degradation and it has already suffered damage then it is a potential fire risk.

Minecraft is a subject at college? That doesn’t sound right, or if it does, wow!

Yeah, quite common these days, they use it for various things such as basic programming (AND/OR/IF etc) with the things you can make in game and see the outcomes of putting things in sequences etc.

Yep it's used in one of the hard material/design subjects she is doing.

Some of the subjects that are on offer these days makes me wish I was back at school.
