Finally!!!

"Apple today is releasing the HomePod 13.2 software update with several new features, including multiple users support, Handoff and Ambient Sounds. The update was announced in June at WWDC 2019, but was postponed until October.

The multi-user mode allow the HomePod to recognize up to six different voices in the home, and personalize its responses accordingly. You will be able to access each user’s individual music library and do user-specific tasks through Personal Requests like sending messages or setting todos.

The new music handoff feature makes it easier to switch between the device in your hand and the HomePod speakers. Just bring your phone close to the HomePod and a notification appears on the Lock screen asking if you want to play on HomePod.

With Ambient Sounds, users can play white noise sounds directly on their HomePods, including ocean waves, birdsong, rainstorms, and more.

Check the full release notes below:

iOS 13.2 provides support for new HomePod features:

  • The ability for HomePod to recognize the voices of different family members to provide a personalized experience
  • Handoff music, podcasts or phone calls by bringing your iPhone close to HomePod
  • Add music to your HomeKit scenes
  • Play relaxing high-quality soundtracks with Ambient Sounds
  • Set sleep timers to fall asleep to music or Ambient Sounds"

Apple releasing HomePod software update with promised voice profiles, Handoff features, much more

Anyone else own an HomePod and excited about this new release? We have four of them, one set in stereo pair, and then one in the study and one in the kitchen. Will be specifically interested in seeing how well it can differentiate my voice from the wife's.

Also sleep timer! Exciting.

Updated mine this morning. Was nice to have the handoff feature. Worked seamlessly. Wish Apple would officially launch them here in NZ.

Finally! Looking forward to updating mine tonight.

I did just read on MacRumors that several people have had issues with the update (or more specifically, their HomePods are going into an endless reboot cycle after updating). Wonder if I should wait for an "update to the update" later today/tomorrow.

Yeah! I updated mine remotely. I hope they're not bricked! Will report back when I get home tonight.

Also, genuinely confused why they are not officially sold here. They're amazing.

Waiting for a Black Friday special - will probably buy another 2-3 if they hit the $249/$199 USD mark.

Where do you buy yours from?

The one I have was bought from Apple Australia and forwarded by a friend, but would feel better about not bothering friends to help out with things like that.

I'd love to know this too. I bought mine from Dick Smith (aka Kogan) a couple of years ago, it was a parallel import from Australia and took about six weeks to arrive!

I keep an eye on the various deals that hit 9to5Toys and the Costco mailer - then buy online and have the stuff sent to the inlaws in LA. This year should be interesting.

Fortunately not bricked! Sound quality seems improved too.

I wonder why some are fine but others are not would they not be all the same hardware.

Gotta suck these days regardless of if you are apple or not but putting out OTA update's can really suck if there is a glitch in there somewhere. I know I would be really pis*sed if I had to return an item because it has been bricked from an OTA update.

How would you get on here if they are not supported here but you have bought one in ??

Good question! Seeing as they’re not sold here I held off updating for that reason until a new update is released.

Best thing for me is the ability to say "play Radio New Zealand National", and get the livestream straight away, with no faffing around with apps on the iPhone and hand-offs etc.

Did anyone else find interacting with Siri with voice recognition turned on quite funny? It literally said to the wife "Who are you?" and "I don't recognise this voice".. Sounding borderline rude. Once we set the wife up - the recognition has been pretty accurate and she hasn't asked who is speaking since.

As a side note: I'm selling a couple of my Black HomePods if anyone is interested. Perfect condition in the box, literally new. $450 +shipping (if you're not in Auckland). PM me if keen.
