As per the title, my 6 month old XS max frequently won’t update apps or download new ones from the App Store. Every time I try to update an app I have to reset the phone. I should add that the battery seems to get rather warm when trying to update apps.
Anything ne else having or had similar issues? Kind of frustrating for a fairly young phone

Back it up and restore it to factory settings. If you still have issues after putting your data back on then restore to factory again without restoring the backup afterwards and just sign into iCloud, etc. as normal and see how it goes. If all that fails to fix the issue call AppleCare...

Can you describe what exactly happens when you attempt to install or update apps?

Does it restart the App Store? And not do anything? And are you getting a lot of respiring as well?

@alasta when I select the app to update the icon for updating just hangs with the “stop” button in the centre and doesn’t update, eventually it says unable to purchase from App Store.

@davidcole, App Store doesn’t restart, unsure what “respiring” means though.

@Brumfondl I was hopeful that there was an easy fix that didn’t necessitate reinstalling from backup. May have to give that a go when I have a spare half day over the next week.

Funny you bring this up, my XS max 512gb does exactly the same thing. I have to restart the phone, and when I go back into the App Store it says “unable to purchase” .

It also runs very hot and restarts occasionally.

Respiring is the current app crashes, you go to a black screen with a spinning wheel then have to unlock phone. Like a mini restart

Ah OK. The old adage you learn something everyday rings true.
But no I don’t have that when the App Store won’t download

Have you tried logging out of your iCloud account via the settings app, and then logging back in again?

The overheating and restarting sounds like a serious problem and would warrant contacting support.

Signing out of iCloud is never recommended unless you are certain that things like photos have all successfully uploaded. Signing out of the iTunes & App Stores would be fine but you might have a hard time signing back in.

I believe the term - from my Jailbreaking days - is respring.

I've had some App Store loading issues on an iPhone X also, but a combo of a force close on the app plus a restart has always worked to remedy the issue (so far). I think I did read (somewhere) that the App Store has been causing issues for quite a few people...

Cheers,

This is a direct result of the several bad ios patches since 13.0.

Apple got me to connect my phone to itunes and then use the "restore iphone" feature on the summary page. This backs up all your data and storage and then completely removes the OS and reloads it again. It then restores all your data.

This was the only thing that fixed my phone.

I still restart it from time to time when apps refuse to update.

This has been a seriously flawed software upgrade from Apple.

I have the exact problem with my X. Phone gets warm, apps don't update etc etc.

What I have been doing is restarting the phone to get it sorted.... this will allow me to update apps normally for the next three days or so, then the behavior repeats itself -which is a pain.

IOS 13 is so unbelievably terribad.

I guess I will have to bit the bullet and do the itunes restore......

Think a lot people in the same boat. Still waiting a good proper update to fix it.

Okay did a full restore on my iPhone X last Friday. It lasted exactly a week and has done the same thing again :(

Guess I will just wait for Apple to get their issues sorted....
