Do you have a 2g phone running 2.2? If so what method did you use and can you report any issues?

Cheers,

does 2.2 even exist??  2.1 just came out if that's what you mean.  If so, i'm running it on a 1st gen iPhone and it's markedly better.

that's 2.0.2 not 2.2.  the carrier update is just to enable you to change the apn from your handset without needing to use  www.unlockit.co.nz.

2.1 is the new firmware update that was released last week, there are other threads about it here - have a read, it's worth updating to.

I have a iPhone that was running 2.0 and jailbroken. I updated using iTunes 8 to 2.1 and this firmware and it works great. The phone didn't need unlocking and all the apps/music/contacts remained - all I lost was my Cydia and Cydia Apps. You can do a full Jailbreak as per the instructions here. Looks pretty simple and I would do it but I'd rather run iTunes 8 with Genius at the expensive of a few cracked apps.

sproyd: You can do a full Jailbreak as per the instructions here. .

I dont recomend that method, the iphone dev team have already had a rant about that site.

For everything jailbreak related go straight to the source http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ quickpwn and pwnage are out for OSX. Windows versions shouldnt be far away.

+1 for this reply, head straight to the blog for all the info you need as and when firmware updates come out.

My method has always been (When a firmware update is released) -

-connect iphone to itunes, when it asks if you want to install the update just click Download Only.
-once update is downloaded, go to the iTunes Updates folder where it's located and move it to the desktop.
-close itunes
-download the latest pwnagetool, currently 2.1
-run pwnage tool, using expert mode.
-choose all your options, i change the partition to 1gb, i don't bootneuter, and i don't use custom logos.
-build the custom firmware upgrade.
-once finished, close pwnagetool.  turn off iphone and open itunes.
-boot iphone to recovery (from off, hold down home and plug in usb cable).
-itunes recognises an iphone in recovery mode, asks to restore firmware.  choose option+restore (on mac) to browse to the firmware you created instead of using the default apple one.
-wait for the restore.  all is well.

this is the best method for me, i don't trust quickpwn because i need to see what i'm doing, don't trust all-in-one options.  i can use genius, app store apps, jailbroken apps, itunes syncing, etc etc.  just like a normal iphone.
