I'm looking for a way to sync a .txt document to my iPhone so that i can edit on my iPhone and on PC and it will update between the two - similar to syncing with your Calendar.

At the moment I am using the great App Air Sharing but that doesn't allow for editing of documents on the phone itself (just viewing).

Any ideas or apps that can do this?

Thanks

As far as I know there is no way as yet to edit any documents on the Iphone.

The best way is to ensure you have the latest version on the PC and sync it across.
I am thinking of using sugarsync which is in the ap;p store-[but it costs but gives good OTAS (Over the air syncing)
I had Quick Office on the N 95 which was good for basic editing tasks
Im not aware of any developers doing anything but be usefull if this happens

Hi,
I've been using the app MobileFinder for viewing pdf's etc, but it does allow you to create & edit a txt file directly on the phone & transfer it to/from a Mac or PC. $2.59 from the iTunes app store. Supports landscape viewing, etc - I haven't used it a lot, but I've noticed today that it can't open some large pdf's that I'm sure it could open last week. Hmmm.... I've just changed to OS 2.1, but also jailbroken the handset (3G iPhone) & added a few largish apps.... maybe I need to use Boss Tools to free up some memory...??

Cheers,
Mike

If you are quick, there is an app called Air Sharing which should fit your bill. The reason I say quick, its only free for a limited time. I snapped it up pretty quick Smile

Have you looked at Evernote?
You can create 'notes' on either Mac/PC, or iPhone, or web and sync them all together.  I've been using it for a couple of months now and it's great.

I'll put in a vote for Evernote as well.  It's great!

Maybe when you answer posts you should read more than the first line? Thanks anyway though.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Using the PC version of Evernote I copied and pasted the contents of my text document. However, upon trying to edit on the iPhone it tells me that the document is not editable for some reason?
Its just plain text with no images or hyperlinks etc (just a txt doc).
Anyone been able to work around this?

There are plenty of text editors and wireless file transfer methods on jailbroken iPhones. Don't worry about voiding the warranty, it is only void if you actually try to have it repaired with the jailbroken software installed. Just restore the phone with iTunes when a repair is needed.

You say plenty but I have yet to find one in Cydia that does what I am looking for as per my post. Do you have examples of the plenty of apps that do this?

I hadn't noticed the not being able to edit some notes thing in Evernote.  But after seeing your post I found a note that had bold text and sure enough I couldn't edit it.  The plain text notes I tried worked though (I have a Mac BTW).
I guess it depends if the paste is rich text or not, it would nice to tell the app you only want to paste in plain text

Rule Evernote out for good! I have an iPhone 1 and I don't use GPRS (or EDGE obviously) and when on the go it doesn't save notes to your iPhone for viewing OR editing! Piece of crap! oh and the text recognition is no way near as good as they claim it to be!

There are about 4. Gtxtedit works for me. You can use SSH to move the text file to and from the phone.
