Fring is now available from app store for free.
VOIP only works on wifi networks unfortunately

I checked over the Fring Forums last night.Quite a few reports of lag of anywhere between 2-5 secs.

Yea, I've played with fring too. But it seems if you hook it into an alternate SIP provider (e.g. 2talk), it seems to still get relayed through their server, thus the extra lag. I did get reasonable results hooking it through a euro based SIP provider, e.g. voipdiscount.com etc; as the servers are a lot closer to each other.

you are correct that is what is happening, the sip traffic is been routed to a fring server overseas  :/

this will never be a decent sip client for 2talk, italk etc with that design

Heard there's a patch that allows skype over 3g/gsm... not sure if we'll get in trouble if VF finds out though...
